5 Tips to Beautify a Flower Girl

Weddings are typically one of the most important days in a person’s life. Choosing your wedding attendants are also important especially your flower girl. They are the last person to walk down the aisle before the bride. Choosing your flower girl(s) is quite an honor for any little girl. Usually girls between four and eight years of age are best since younger girls are a bit harder to manage.

Including them in as many pre-wedding activities as possible will reduce the overall anxiety a child may experience while being the center of attention. More importantly, little girls generally love to dress up and look pretty so be sure to consider these 5 tips for beautifying a flower girl.
First Tip

Prior to the first rehearsal, invite your flower girls to your home for a slumber party. Create the atmosphere of a hair salon with towels and mirrors, brushes and squirt bottles. Set up the curling irons, crimp irons or straightening irons along with various barrettes, rubber bands and head bands. If the flower girl’s parents approve, you may also consider doing a semi-permanent hair dye.

This gives the bride the opportunities to not only assess the flower girl’s hair in terms of length, straightness, curliness, etc. It also gives the flower girl a chance to show you what she likes and does not like. Hopefully this event will allow you to come to an agreement about how she will wear her hair at the wedding.

Second Tip

To also get to know your flower capabilities in terms of how much responsibility she may be able to handle, include her in your bridal shower. This may also give you the opportunity to learn more about the flower girls’ preferences of color, flowers, food, etc. This is beneficial information when it comes times to find the right dress, shoes and accessories for her.

Third Tip

Since it is easy for a child’s attitude to oscillate during long events, it is best to choose clothing and shoes that will be comfortable. While a velvet dress may be absolutely stunning on a flower girl, she may find the lining itchy. However, to minimize the process of deciding on the clothing, choose three to five outfits for the flower girl to try on. If possible, allow her to mix and match the various tights, shoes and accessories. She will be happier in an outfit she was able to help choose.

Fourth Tip

If you have something specific in mind for your flower girl to wear or carry, it is a good idea to give her a replica or something similar as a gift. This is an excellent bonding gesture and would make her feel more connected to you thus being more obedient during the wedding ceremony and reception.

In conclusion it is important to be sure to consider the time of day of your wedding and plan accordingly. If your flower girl is quite young, it is best to have an early evening wedding where they will have napped and been well rested.
